Our Mission
“Journal writing, when it becomes a ritual for transformation, is not only life-changing but life-expanding.”
— Jen Williamson
It was all a dream...
For many growing up, creative writing was either an endless source of joy and inspiration, or the bane of their schoollife. They spent years writing essays and short stories, poems and responses, first drafts and final drafts, suddenly to go into the real world and leave all of that behind.
Unless you are one of the fortunate few that makes a living with their words, you most probably don't spend consistent time crafting narratives or thinking through how to convey nuanced ideas and emotions.
And this probably isn't from a lack of exposure. If you are reading this right now, you have access to the internet, and with it, an endless array of resources on how to do creative writing. Resources aren't scarce.
What is scarce however, and what is truly valuable, is the time to do it.
"But I have plenty of free time to spare!", some might say. And this may be true if you reflect on how you spend your time. But, this highlights one of the biggest challenges to cultivating this or any skill: habituation.
Even if you have the time to, if you don't force yourself to make a habit out of something, you will likely never improve.
Launched in April 2022, Daily Prose was created to help address this obstacle by making it easy for anyone to get started and stick to writing by providing a simple interface to capture your work, interesting writing prompts to get you excitement, and a series of reminders meant to keep you engaged.
Our Philosophy
Daily Prose believes in one fundamental truth:
Critical reflection is the most fulfilling way for someone to grow themselves with little to no cost outside of time.
Everything we do stems from this core idea. If we can push ourselves everyday to facilitate this, we know each and every person that tries us out will be better for it.
Our Committment
There are plenty of options out there and things you can do with your time. We get it and we respect that. As such, Daily Prose will always strive to:
- Push you to be better, but not overwhelm you - We all lead different lives. We want to see you change your habits without feeling burdened. We understand that we can't be your everything, and that's ok.
- Keep your data, yours - Our mission is to help you be better, not harvest your story ideas to launch our own writing career.
- Adding value is more important than adding features - Any changes we make should enhance your experience, and if they don't, then we don't make them.
We'd love to hear from you!
All feedback is incredibly welcome. If you have any suggestions or ideas for improvements, please reach out to [email protected] and let us know.
